M Harun-Ar-Rashid served in the East Bengal Regiment from 1970 until 2002, where he eventually reached the rank of Lieutenant General. In the early part of his military career Harun-Ar-Rashid fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War, with him later serving as a commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Georgia during the 1990s. Outside of his military remit Harun-Ar-Rashid also served as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Bangladesh from 2001 to 2002.
