Biography

Lieutenant-Colonel Hugues Landon was a French equestrian who competed at international events during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Landon, who was also a racehorse rider with 22 wins on the track, is the only French veterinarian to represent France in eventing at the Olympics.

Along with Jéhan Le Roy, Pierre Durand, and Guy Lefrant he won bronze in the team competition at the 1959 European Eventing Championships in Harewood, England. On the horse Dauphin he won the fencing horse championship in 1961 and 1962 earning him a place on the French team for the European Championships and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. At the Games Landon rode the military horse Laurier in the individual and team events, finishing 27th and 8th, respectively.

Following a successful military and sporting career Landon left the Army in 1969 to share his experience with the world of racing and equine veterinary clients. When he reached retirement age he then spent a lot of his time serving a religious community in a monastery.
