General Lodovico Nava was born in 1929 in Modena. He was a military officer and athlete, who competed in eventing at the 1960 Roma Olympics and the 1959 European Championships. His primary role in equestrian sport was in training, as he was responsible for training new instructors after the first federal courses were established at the end of the 1970s.
Teaching was the focal point of General Nava’s equestrian career. He dedicated many years to training young people and instructors and becoming the reference within the training sector of FISE, the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation. Nava was a man who was able to instill the true sense of sport, able to arrive at a logical conclusion to problems by reasoning, but still asked for advice on methods, exchanging ideas, feelings, and impressions on horses. His books on horse sport include Equitazione oggi (1970), Il tuo cavallo (1988), Il cavallo nel rettangolo (1990) and Da un secolo all’altro … a cavallo (2010). Nava passed away in December 2016 at 87-years-old after a long illness.
