East-Prussian-born and München-based equestrian Ottokar Pohlmann participated in the three-day event at the 1960 Roma Olympics aboard Polarfuchs, but did not finish the course. He later became one of the best-known instructors for three-day-eventing in West Germany at his own riding academy in München. He also built the 1972 Olympic course on which West Germany’s eventing team won the bronze medal. His sons-in-law Paul Schöckemöhle and Ludger Beerbaum were also Olympic equestrians.
