Biography

After graduating from secondary school in 1907, Carl Rosenblad joined the Life Guard Dragoons as a volunteer. He attended the military school and became a second lieutenant two years later. In 1913, he was promoted to lieutenant and in 1924 to captain of his regiment. In 1921, he attended the Italian riding school in Pinerolo for three months and subsequently became an instructor at the Strömsholm riding school. In the meantime, as an officer in the Life Regiment on Horseback, he served from 1928-31 as head of the remonteerings commission. He was made Knight of the Order of the Sword, of the Order of St John, of the Finnish Order of the White Rose and of the Italian Order of the Crown. Rosenblad later embarked on a business career in real estate and wine. He also was vice chairman of the boards of the shipping companies Othello and Motala. Additionally, he held representative positions in business, civil defence and social organisations. During World War II, Rosenblad served as commander of the Byringe internment camp near Strängnäs, where Soviet military personnel and civilians, who fled to Sweden were interned.

At the 1912 Olympic Games, Rosenblad competed in dressage finishing fifth on his horse Miss Hastings. He was a member of the Civil Riders’ Association, Stockholm’s Field Riding Club and manager of the Finnish Field Riding Club.

Carl was the son of chief equerry Baron Eberhard Rosenblad. He married Margareta Enhörning in 1913 and in a second marriage Ingrid Anna Natalia Killander (née Allard) in 1946. Both marriages remained childless. Rosenblad became a baron at the death of his father in 1929.
