Biography

Fredrik Rosencrantz joined the Skåne Dragoon Regiment as a volunteer in 1897. After graduating from secondary school, he attended the military school from 1898-99. He then entered the regiment as a second lieutenant and was promoted to lieutenant in 1903. In 1908, Rosencrantz completed a course at the Italian riding school of Tor di Quinto, a quarter in Roma. From 1911-13, he was an instructor at the riding school at Strömsholm. During this period, he competed in the team event in show jumping at the 1912 Olympic Games and won gold with the Swedish team on his horse Drabant.

Subsequently, Rosencrantz attended the Imperial Spanish Court Riding School in Wien (Vienna) and rose to the rank of captain. He returned as an instructor to the Strömsholm riding school in 1916 and stayed there for four years. In 1921, he was transferred as captain to the Småland Hussars. Rosencrantz was discharged in 1929 and entered the regiment’s reserve. In 1920, he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Sword.

Fredrik Rosencrantz was born on Örup Castle as the son of a lieutenant colonel and chamberlain at the Royal Court. He married Elsa Mary Hallbäck in 1918. They had two sons. Fred
