He had a lengthy and successful military career, eventually becoming a major. Before World War I, he had a spell serving in Africa with the Mounted Regiment of the Nigerian Infantry until he was recalled to the Hussars in 1914. Scott went on to be awarded the Military Cross (MC).
Scott was selected for both the team and individual three-day event at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, and also took part in the individual show jumping competition, finishing fourth on his horse Shamrock. Also that year, Scott was one of three officers in the British Army team that contested the King’s Cup at the International Horse Show at Olympia.
