Biography

Charley Stoffel was a versatile sportsman from Arosa, who participated in 1924 and 1928 in both the Winter and Summer Olympics. When he went to Chamonix, he was considered as one of the favorites in the four/five-man bob, but after a crash in the first run, was forced to withdraw. Four years later, he placed eighth.

Stoffel was more successful in riding. With the Swiss military team he just missed a bronze medal, placing fourth aboard Kreuzritter. In Amsterdam in 1928, he rode Attila, finishing 20th individually, while the Swiss team did not finish the competition. His son Alexander also took part in the 1952 and 1956 Olympics as a horseman and his wife Annelies Stoffel-Schuster was an internationally successful equestrienne. Charley Stoffel served as an officer in the cavalry and worked in the textile industry.
