Biography

Ottmár Szepesi graduated from the Ludovika Military Academy in 1921. Between 1923 and 1924 he took a riding course and in 1927 won the national championship in eventing. In 1928 he was a student and then a teacher at the Riding and Driving Teacher Training School, and in 1931 he became a member of the Hungarian team that won the Nations Prize in Salzburg. Szepesi won the Hungarian Championship three times (1931-33) in show jumping, and in 1935 won the Nations Prize in Aachen. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics Szepesi finished 32nd in show jumping competition.

Szepesi fought in World War II, then in 1945 joined the newly organized Hungarian Army. He served in the Department of Defense until 1947 and retired in 1948. In 1946, he founded the Honvéd Sports Stable, which was the basis of the future equestrian department of Bp. Honvéd.

After a long break, Szepesi rejoined equestrian sports in 1959, and was actively involved in opening the trotting track and restarting gallop races. He was a riding instructor at the Poroszló Medosz SC, then from 1963 he moved to Alag in the Horse Breeding Directorate of the Ministry of Finance.
