Héctor Velázquez was Chilean champion as a junior flyweight in 1970 and 1971. In 1971 he won a silver medal in the flyweight class at the Pan American Games. After competing at the 1972 Olympics, he turned professional and fought intermittently from 1973-81 as a pro, compiling a record of 9 wins (4 by knockout) and 12 losses (3 by knockout). In 1979 he fought for the South American junior flyweight title, but lost on points to Argentina’s Rodolfo Rodríguez. Velázquez died several days after suffering a stroke in 2010.
