Biography

Wyatt “Bunty” Thompson grew up on his family’s cattle and sheep property in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. He was influenced to get into riding by his “horse-mad” mother, Violet. Thompson competed in the three-day event at the 1956 Stockholm Equestrian Olympics, with the team finishing fourth. Thompson and his teammates were all later inducted into Equestrian Australia’s Hall of Fame.

Thompson retired from high-level eventing after the 1956 Olympics, and later worked with the council of the Royal Agricultural Society of New South Wales. He also helped design, and assisted with the planning of, three-day events. Thompson and his wife founded the Millah Millah Angus Stud Farm near Bathurst. He continued in equestrian sport both as a judge and administrator, and was an Olympic selector for Australia in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
