Talented in the dressage, jumping as well as cross country, Ernest van Loon was a natural eventing rider. He won the Dutch eventing title five times, competed twice in the Olympic eventing competition, as well as twice in the Badminton Horse Trials. At the Helsinki Games, he competed alongside his brother, Max. Van Loon also regularly competed in jumping and dressage, and event appeared with horse acts in the circus. He later gained fame as a riding instructor and author, writing the two-part classical work “Ruiters and Rechters”.
