German road cyclist Jutta Niehaus participated in two Olympic Games. At Seoul in 1988 she surprisingly won the silver medal in the road race, and at Barcelona in 1992 she finished 44th following a fall. She was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award for her 1988 success. Niehaus also won three national titles.
In 1987 Niehaus won a stage at the Tour de France Féminine, and in at the Giro d’Italia Féminine in 1988. She was named Female Cyclist of the Year in Germany in 1988 and 1989. Niehaus retired in 1992 and worked with the municipality of her hometown Bocholt.
