West German cyclist Ines Varenkamp competed in the individual road race at both the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics, finishing finished 12th on both occasions. In 1982, she won the national individual pursuit title, and in 1988 added the road race title. She also rode the Tour de Texas, the Giro d’Italia Femminile and the Tour Cycliste Féminine, and enjoyed some stage wins.
