Louis Bezzina was 14-years-old when he got his first bicycle and trained with his cousin John Magri who was a Maltese national champion. Bezzina joined the Mosta cycling team, winning two big races in Malta to earn himself a place on the Olympic team. At the 1972 München Games the cousins were joined by Alfred Tonna and Joseph Said in the team time trial, where they placed 31st out of the 35 nations that competed. In 1974 Bezzina moved to Mackay, Queensland, where he started working in a mill in the rural town of North Eton, before starting his own barber business.
