Biography

Cvitko Bilić began his cycling career by winning the junior road race at the 1961 Yugoslavia national championships. Four years later Bilić won the overall classification at the Tour of Yugoslavia and was named as the Croatian Sportsman of the Year in 1966 by the newspaper Sportske novosti. In 1967 he won the Istrian Spring Tour stage race for the first time, before winning it again in 1968 and 1970. This was followed by another win at the Tour of Yugoslavia in 1971, along with winning the Tour de Serbie in 1971 and 1973.

At international competitions Bilić represented the Yugoslavia national team. In 1968 he finished 25th in the road race at the Mexico City Olympics, just over five minutes behind the race winner. Three years later he was part of the quartet that won bronze in the team time trial at the Mediterranean Games. He returned to the Olympics in 1972, where he rode in the team time trial at the München Games. Bilić finished his career in 1974 with wins in races in Algeria, Croatia, and Italy.
