From 1971 to 1973 Swiss cyclist Gilbert Bischoff won three consecutive editions of the Grand Prix des Nations, an amateur individual time trial race held each year in Cannes, France. Bischoff was also consistent at home, finishing on the podium in multiple races throughout Switzerland. In 1972 he was selected to ride in the team time trial at the München Olympics, with the Swiss team finishing eighth. One year later he won the opening stage of the Vuelta al Táchira in Venezuela before winning more races in Europe. In 1976 Bischoff rode one season as a professional but retired from the sport shortly afterwards.
