Biography

East German cyclist Steffen Blochwitz was a member of the silver winning 4,000 metres track pursuit team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1986 and 1987 he won the national title with his home club SC Cottbus, and in 1989 the individual time trial title. In 1985, Blochwitz won the Youth World Championships, and in 1989 became world champion with the East German team. In 1986 and 1987 he won team pursuit silver medals.

In 1991, Blochwitz turned to road cycling and won the Saxony Tour, and in 1995 the International Thuringia Tour. In 1999, Blochwitz retired and became manager of the professional cycling LKT Team Brandenburg.
