Jos Boons is one of the few Belgian cyclists to win the national road title both as an amateur (1964) and as a professional (1967). After his Olympic appearance in Tokyo, Boons turned pro, but except for his Belgian title never managed wins in major races, although he won a slew of less important races. He died at age 57, after being involved in a crash with a truck.
