Biography

The Great Britain reserve goaltender at the 1936 Olympics, Art Child was born in London during World War I, but his family moved to Canada after the War. Child started playing minor league hockey and was gaining a reputation as a good goalie, before a move back to England in 1935 when he joined the Wembley Lions. He then had one season at Earl’s Court Rangers and then played with Wembley Monarchs, before returning to Canada in 1941, where he got a job with the American Can Company as a marketing director. He also resumed his hockey career with Hamilton Tigers, and then briefly with Kansas City Pla-Mors, before returning to the Tigers. Child won seven Ontario titles with the Tigers in 10 seasons. He died while playing golf in 1996.
