Jesús Chousal worked 12-hour days before riding his bicycle on the tough roads of Chile, which were made of dirt and sand, and often littered with cobblestones. The training paid off with Chousal being one of four Chilean cyclists to participate at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, competing in the road race, although his time was not recorded. After the Olympics he stayed in Europe where he made good friends with fellow cyclists from Italy and Spain. He was also offered a cycling contract but had to decline due to commitments back in Chile. Along with cycling Chousal kept active as a rower and worked as a firefighter.
