Lucien De Brauwere competed in the road race at the 1972 München Olympics. He was Belgian amateur road champion in 1972 and made his professional début in 1973 with Flandria-Carpenter-Shimano. After two years, De Brauwere moved to Alsaver-De Gribaldy. He had only a few wins as a pro in his four-year career, including a stage at the Ster de Bessèges, a stage at the Tour de Luxembourg, and he placed third in the Zürich Championship.
