Delmo Delmastro

Delmo Delmastro was an Italian cyclist who became a naturalized Argentinian. Born in Northern Italy in the Piedmont region, Delmastro moved with his parents to Buenos Aires at 16-years-old. In the 1960s he demonstrated his ability, setting South American track records in the 4,000 and 5,000 metres and, on the road, he twice won the Gran Premio Pirelli in Buenos Aires, and in 1963 added the Vuelta del Norte and the Metropolitano de Persecution. He was named to the national team, and at the 1963 Pan American Games won bronze in the road race behind Gregório Carrizalez of Venezuela and the Olympian Uruguayan Wilde Baridón. One year later he won the Doble San Francisco in Córdoba and the Grand Prix González Chavez. At Tokyo the Argentine team time trial finished fourth. Eight days later in the individual road race Delmastro placed eighth.

In the following years Delmastro won many races nationally, including the Vuelta of Vina del Mar in Chile (1965), and a second victory at the Vuelta de la Juventud in Mexico. He finished 11th at the 1965 World Road Race Championship and led the Argentine time trial team to the gold medal at the 1967 Winnipeg Pan American Games.
