In 1955 Stoyan Georgiev Demirev won the Tour of Bulgaria before finishing third at the Tour of Egypt two years later. Demirev became the Bulgarian time trial champion in 1959, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. At the 1960 Roma Games he finished 52nd in the individual road race, just over five minutes behind the race winner. Demirev also competed in five editions of the Peace Race, with a best finish of 16th in 1959.
