Francis Duteil competed for the Cyclo Racing Club Limousin, remaining as an amateur throughout his competitive career. In 1970 he won the minor Tour du Limousin, but in 1976 and 1979 Duteil was the French amateur road champion. In 1972 he rode as an amateur in Ghent-Wevelgem but finished well back.
