Hector Edwards

Hector Edwards had a successful cycling career in the 1970s, becoming a national champion in Barbados and winning medals at international competitions. In 1972 Edwards competed on both the road and track at the München Olympics before competing on just the track four years later at the Montréal Games. He won two medals in the 1,000 metres time trial at the Central American and Caribbean Games, with bronze in 1974 in Santo Domingo, before going one better four years later to win silver in Medellín.

Edwards later became the President of the Guyana Cycling Federation and the general secretary of the Guyana Olympic Association. He also worked at the University of Guyana, where he wrote several papers on the issue of doping in professional cycling. His son Corey played first-class cricket for the Barbados national team.
