Peruvian cyclist Carlos Espinoza won the Pirelli Cup for three consecutive years from 1969 to 1971. During this time Espinoza competed at the 1970 Bolivarian Games in Maracaibo, winning silver in the team pursuit and bronze in the 1,000 metres time trial. In 1972 he was selected to ride in both the road race and team time trial at the München Olympics, finishing 30th in the latter. Espinoza was only 41-years-old when he died in November 1991.
