After the 1974 Olympics Jean-Jacques Fussien turned professional and raced in the pro peleton through 1978. A domestique, he twice raced in the Vuelta a España (1973, 1975) and finished the 1978 Tour de France in his only appearance in that race. His greatest triumph as a professional was winning the king of the mountains jersey in the 1976 Paris-Nice stage race. He raced many one-day classics, and also spent time on the track, placing in the French professional sprint championship in 1976-77, and in cyclo-cross, placing 16th at the 1976 World Cyclo-Cross Championship.
