Alberto Ghilardi first raced on the roads before changing to the track. After the Olympics, he continued to ride for several more years, as a professional (1933-36), but with little success. He competed in just one Giro d’Italia, in 1936, but did not finish the race which saw Gino Bartali win the first of his three GIros. After the war, Ghilardi was one of the founders of National Federation of Athletes.
