Zoltán Halász

Between 1970 and 1985, Zoltán Halász was a cyclist with Szekszárd Szövetkezeti Spartacus. He won individual Hungarian Championships 11 times and won six team titles in various disciplines. In 1979 he was on the podium in major domestic international competitions such as the Csepel Cup, Pannónia Cup, Gemenc Cup, and Mecsek Cup – as the winner of the latter three. One of his biggest international successes was when he finished second on the ninth stage of the 1984 Peace Race and finished 28th in general classification.

Halász was a member of the Hungarian national team between 1976-85. He took part at the 1980 Moskva Olympics, where he finished 17th in the 100-kilometre team time trial and 40th in the individual road race. At the 1981 World Championships in Praha, he was 45th individually and 21st with the team. In 1983, he was chosen as the Hungarian road cyclist of the year. His brother, László Halász, was also an Olympic cyclist.
