Zygmunt Hanusik was a Silesian road cyclist who competed for Poland at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Hanusik was with the pack near the finish but a crash kept him from contesting the sprint and he placed 62nd in the road race. Hanusik rode the Peace Race four times, finishing third in 1970, also winning the Polish road race title that year. His other victories included the 1970 Tour de Algerie and the 1972 Tour du Loir et Cher.
Hanusik had started in sports as a footballer but turned to cycling in his teens. He raced for Górnik Lędzina and Polonia Łaziska Górne, both clubs near Tychy. Hanusik’s great passion was racing pigeons, a hobby most of his life.
