Biography

Dietmar Hauer was an Austrian road cyclist participating in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. He came 16th with the Austrian 100 km time trial team and placed 41st in the individual road race.

In 1987, 1988, and 1990 Hauer rode the Austrian Tour and won it in the latter two years. As an excellent mountain climber, he was called “Glocknerking” by the Austrian press. Hauer rode only one year as a professional, with the Belgian Tulip team in 1991, because he refused to take unknown pills and had to leave the team.

By profession Hauer taught mechanics, machine elements, construction exercises, turning, and model making at Höhere Technische Lehranstalt in Klagenfurt. He and his wife raised three children.
