Biography

In 1960 the micronation of Liechtenstein sent a delegation of five athletes to compete at the Roma Olympics. Cyclist Adolf Heeb was their lone representative in the individual road race, with him failing to finish the course. The following year Heeb won the opening stage of the Tour of Austria, in addition to finishing on the podium on stages three and five. In 1962 he continued to have success including winning the Zürich amateur championship, along with the mountains classification at the Tour de l’Avenir in France. After retiring from the sport Heeb served as the President of the Liechtenstein Cycling Federation from 1979 to 1988.

Heeb was active in politics in Liechtenstein from a young age, being one of the founder members of the Youth Union arm of the Patriotic Union party in the 1960s, where he served as their first President. In the 1970s he then served as a deputy member of parliament for the Patriotic Union, eventually being elected as their President in 2005, staying in the role until 2011.
