Biography

Jan Hettema was a cyclist who competed on the road and track at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. He later turned to rally racing, winning the South African Rally Championship five times. In June 2016 Hettema was shot dead during a home robbery in which the criminals tied up his wife, and pushed a worker at the house into a cupboard. The thieves took a laptop, cellphones, and jewelry. His wife survived the incident.
