In 1968 Swiss cyclist Bruno Hubschmid won silver with his compatriots in the team time trial at the UCI Road World Championships in Italy. Two months later Hubschmid competed in the road race and the team pursuit at the Mexico City Olympics, but without the success he had at the Worlds. The following year, however, he won another medal in the team time trial at the World Championships, this time taking home a bronze. In 1971 he became the Swiss amateur road race champion, in addition to taking stage wins at the Milk Race in England and the Tour de l’Avenir in France. The following year he won another stage at the Tour de l’Avenir and finished 19th in the road race at the München Olympics. In 1973 Hubschmid rode for one year as a professional, finishing third in the road race at the Swiss championships, before retiring shortly afterwards.
