In 1956 Colombian cyclist Pablo Hurtado finished 39th in the individual road race at the Melbourne Olympics, more than 13 minutes behind the race winner. Hurtado then had better results back home, winning stages of the Vuelta a Colombia in 1957 and 1958, along with finishing eighth overall at the 1958 edition of the Vuelta a Guatemala. In 1959 he won another stage of the Vuelta a Colombia, before winning gold and silver in the team road race and individual road race, respectively, at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Caracas. Hurtado rode one more edition of the Vuelta a Colombia, winning three stages in 1960. That same year he also returned to the Olympics, finishing 16th in the 100 kilometres team time trial at the Roma Games.
