Road cyclist Hans-Peter Jakst finished fourth with the 100 km team trial at the 1976 Montréal Olympics and came in 37th in the individual road race. One year earlier he won the bronze medal at the Military World Championships (CISM) in the road race. In 1977 he turned professional and won the West German pro road race title, and was also runner-up in 1981. He raced the Tour de France in 1980 and the Giro d’Italia in 1977, 1978, and 1981. After retiring in 1984 he founded a cycling shop in his hometown of Bremen.
