Biography

From the mid-1920s to the early 1930s Georg Johnsson was one of the best road cyclists in Sweden. After finishing third in the Mälaren Runt one-day race in 1924, Johnsson then became the national champion in the individual time trial one year later. He finished second in the Mälaren Runt in 1926, before winning the race in 1928. His consistent results earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1928 Amsterdam Games, where he won bronze in the combined team event in the road race. Johnsson won two further editions of the Mälaren Runt (1929, 1931), in addition to finishing second again in 1930 and 1932. Johnsson was also a good skier, winning the Stockholm 18 kilometres championship in 1926. Following his sporting career he went on to run a bicycle shop in Stockholm.
