In 1963 Danish cyclist Junker Jørgensen won the junior individual time trial title at the national championships before winning the youth team time trial title a year later at the Nordic Championships. Jørgensen then won the Stjerneløbet one-day race for amateurs in his hometown of Roskilde back-to-back in 1970 and 1971. His consistent record in races in Demark earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1972 München Games, where he rode in the team time trial. Jørgensen continued to specialise in the discipline throughout the 1970s, winning the national title in the event in 1973 and 1978. He was only 42-years-old when he died in January 1989.
