Greek cyclist Manthos Kaloudis became the national road race champion in 1937 and the Balkan champion in 1940. In 1947 Kaloudis finished as the runner-up in the Greek road race championships, earning himself a place on the Olympic team. At the 1948 London Games he was 37-years-old and one of the oldest cyclists in the race, which he ultimately did not finish. Kaloudis also participated in the sprint on the track in London. Although he did not compete in round one of the event, he was allowed to start in the repêchage after the Chinese cyclist Howard Wing withdrew.
