Road cyclist Johannes Knab was a member of the West German 100 km time trial team that finished 20th at the 1972 München Olympics. In 1967, 1970 and 1971, he competed at the World Amateur Championships, an in 1968 won the Tour of Düren. Knab retired after the München Games and became a trained tool maker, and was employed by the Rural Development Office of his hometown, Hallstadt, in Bavaria.
