Biography

Josef Landsberg was quite successful as a cyclist in the years 1912-14. Prior to the 1912 Olympic Games, he won two Swedish Championships in the team time trial over 10 km and 100 km. His teammates from IFK Örebro were 1920 gold medallist Harry Stenqvist and non-Olympian Titus Johansson. The same team repeated their victory in the event one year later.

When Landsberg competed in the road time trial at the Olympic Games in Stockholm, he had to retire after just 200 m when he was hit by a car and dragged behind it. In 1913 and 1914 he won two consecutive holdings of the prestigious 200 km Scandinavian Race in Uppsala. In both years, he also finished second in the race round Lake Mälaren. At the 1913 Nordic Championship he placed fifth in the road race.

Landberg married Märta Evelina Hult. He worked as a farmworker and later as warehouse manager and turner.
