Biography

After graduating from university Michael Lecky represented the Jamaican cycling team in the early 1970s. Lecky rode at both the 1970 Central American and Caribbean Games and the 1971 Pan American Games before being selected to compete at the München Olympics. At the Games he competed in the road race, as well as the individual and team pursuit events on the track. That same year Lecky joined the Caribbean Atlantic Life Insurance company as an advisor before being appointed as the life operations manager in Haiti just four years later.

In 1979 Lecky moved to Canada where he founded the Alliance Financial Group (AFG) three years later. He also founded a realty company and a mortgage services company, with his wife and daughters helping to run them. By 2011 AFG had more than 80 finance agents working for the company, most of them based in Ontario. Lecky served as the President of the Black Business & Professional Association and was also a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s commissioner’s advisory committee on visible minorities.
