In his youth Argentine cyclist José López competed all over the country from his hometown of La Plata, to cities such as Santa Fe and Rosario. In 1928 López was selected to go to the Olympics in Amsterdam after being picked as the best cyclist from La Plata. At the Games he finished 21st, about 30 minutes behind the race winner, and eighth overall in the combined team event. On his return to Argentina he continued to cycle for a short time before beginning work at a telephone company. López also set up his own bicycle business that he ran for more than 60 years.
