Biography

New Zealand cyclist Neil Lyster represented the national team for more than a decade, from the late 1960s until the late 1970s. In 1968 Lyster was part of the New Zealand quartet that finished 23rd in the team time trial at the Mexico City Olympics. Two years later he became the national road race champion before being selected to compete at his second Olympics. This time Lyster rode on the track at the München Games, finishing 14th in the team pursuit. Although he was not selected to compete at the Montréal Games, he travelled with the team as their manager. Lyster ended his career with silver in the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton, Canada.
