Jan Magiera was an accomplished cyclist. He rode in five editions of the Peace Race, captaining the Polish team to wins in 1967 and 1968. Magiera also was a three-time national champion.
Magiera was born in 1938 in Jelna and had ten siblings. He graduated from building and metal school as a locksmith. He competed as a cyclist from 1953 to 1971. On the three occasions that he rode the Tour de Pologne, he finished in second place in 1966 and third in 1964. Magiera also represented Poland at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
