Primo Magnani qualified for the 1920 Olympics by finishing third in the first Copa Bernocchi road race in 1919, which was won by his 1920 teammate Ruggero Ferrario. At the Antwerpen Olympics, Magnani competed only on the track, winning gold in the team pursuit. In his second event, the 50 km track race, he was less fortunate, having to stop due to mechanical problems and was forced into a long chase, eventually finishing eighth.
