Biography

Prior to his 1964 Olympic appearance, Jorge Mariné’s best major finish was third at the 1961 Vuelta a Asturia. After the Tokyo Olympics he turned professional, with his major palmarès being second at the 1969 Ruta del Sol and third at the 1967 Grand Prix de Llodio. In his neo-pro year he placed seventh at the Tour de l’Avenir. Mariné thrice rode the Vuelta a España, finishing 27th in 1966, 19th in 1969 and 56th in 1970. He rode the 1967 Tour de France, placing 56th, and the 1970 Giro d’Italia, in which he failed to finish. Mariné’s professional career lasted through 1970.
