Biography

Ruggero Bagialemani was an Italian baseball player who made his Serie A début in 1978 with Nettuno, for whom he played his entire career of 21 seasons. Nicknamed “Pantera”, he helped Nettuno win four Italian titles (1990, 1993, 1996, 1998), two European Cups (1991, 1997), two Italian Cups (1995, 1998), two CEB Cups (1993, 1995), and two CEB Super Cups (1996, 1998). Known for his outbursts, at the end of the last game of the 1999 championship, Bagialemani was suspended for three years for attacking the home base umpire.

Bagialemani’s début with the senior national team took place during the 1982 World Championship held in Seoul. He also competed at three Olympics (1984, 1992, 1996), five Intercontinental Cups, and seven World Cups. In addition, in 1990 he represented Italy on the Rest of the World team that defeated the USA, 11-8. Bagialemani set Italian records with the national team with 195 games played, 209 hits, and an average of .310.

After retiring from competition, Bagialemani became technical director of Nettuno in 2001. He took over as manager in 2002, holding that position until the end of the 2008 season.
