Ernest Meighan was the first great Belizean road cyclist. He raced at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in both the road race and the team time trial. In 2014 Meighan was killed in a shooting in Belize City, along with three other victims. In 2009 his younger brother, Ellis, had also been killed in a shooting incident.
